hi readers, i’m vega!
i was born and raised in virginia beach, virginia, a place that’s always been home but somehow still manages to surprise me with new things to discover almost every day.
for as long as i can remember, i’ve loved sharing recommendations and helping people uncover new experiences. it started in high school when friends would ask me for ideas—fun date spots, summer activities, or interesting places to explore. i kept curated lists in my notes app, always adding new ideas i came across. there was something so fulfilling about helping others find things to do and enjoy in this area, and that passion has stayed with me ever since.
at the same time, i developed a love for making videos. from a young age, i was captivated by the idea of capturing moments and telling stories. i would grab my dad’s video camera and film everything—funny clips of my dog, little updates about my day, or anything else that felt worth documenting. creating videos became a way for me to preserve memories and share them with others.
fast forward to february 2024, when i joined the “my chicagos” trend on tik tok, where people shared places that meant a lot to them. naturally, i included virginia beach and talked about how much i loved growing up here. to my surprise, the video got an incredible response, with people commenting things like, “finally someone from the 757 on tik tok!” and “i love seeing virginia beach on my fyp!” that’s when it hit me: i had so many recommendations to share, and there were people who actually wanted to hear them.
that realization sparked something in me, and i started posting videos about coffee shop roundups, my favorite restaurants, and highlights of local businesses. the response was amazing, and my tik tok following began to grow. but i wanted something more permanent and community-focused, so i created an instagram account. through sharing roundups and business highlights, that page has grown to over 8,000 followers. along the way, i’ve been able to help locals and newcomers discover things to do while supporting small businesses and fostering connections in meaningful ways.
now, i’m expanding to this blog, and i couldn’t be more excited. writing has always been another passion of mine. when i was younger, i even dreamed of becoming an author. while i’m not quite ready to write a novel, this blog gives me the perfect space to share detailed itineraries, highlight local events, and tell the stories of inspiring business owners. it’s a place where i can explore my creativity and connect even more deeply with the community i love.
this platform has truly been a dream come true because it combines everything i love into one. my passion for videography, sharing local recommendations, writing, and helping the community.
growing up, i used to hear people say, “there’s nothing to do in virginia beach,” and that’s part of why i’m so passionate about this. i guess this is my way of proving them wrong. there’s so much to discover here, and i can’t wait to share it all with you.
